Crinoids, also known as "sea lilies"
or "feather-stars", are marine
animals that live both in shallow water and in depths as great as 6000
meters. Many crinoids live in the deep sea, but others are common on
coral reefs.
Most crinoids have many more than five arms, and lived attached to the
bottom. All crinoids are filter feeders, filtered food particles from
the currents flowing past them.
Crinoidea is a small class of echinoderms with around 600 species.
